Reception for the Artist: Saturday June 8, 2 – 4 pm
We are pleased to present an exhibition of paintings by San Francisco-based artist Amanda Reeves. This will be her first solo exhibition in Vancouver.
Amanda Reeves’ colourful yet subtly nuanced abstract paintings challenge the viewer to engage in the contemplation of perception. The desire to secure the paintings in focus is thwarted by their bright colours and tonal shifts; the floating and popping effect of meticulously painted shapes confuses their spatial relationships and the layers become indistinct. Reeves’ interest in this series of abstractions is rooted in her fascination with colour and pattern. Influenced by her previous studies in marine biology she integrates a rigid sense of shape and form with an intuitive and organic colour palette.
Since graduating with honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design University in 2005, Reeves has participated in solo and group exhibitions. She was regional finalist in the 2008 RBC Canadian Painting Competition and her work is in the collections of the Bank of Montreal, Royal Bank of Canada, Medcan and Cenovus Energy. Born in England, Reeves grew up in Canada and currently lives and works in San Francisco, CA.
Please join us and Amanda Reeves for the Opening of her inaugural Vancouver exhibition on Saturday June 8, 2 – 4 pm.
