Anna Sailamaa: Comics and Drawings exhibition extended until June 1, 2013

Due to overwhelming response to the Canadian premier of Sailamaa’s drawings, comics and prints we have extended her show until Saturday June 1, 2013. Don’t miss the unique opportunity to delve into an artist’s process of creation and compare it to the finished work. Comics and Drawings includes drawings from the upcoming graphic novel The Beehive (ink and crayon on paper), original drawings from the While accordion book series (ink, felt pen and collage on paper) and original drawings from the Kairos series (crayon on transparent film). Exhibition also consists of drawings from unfinished graphical stories as well as sketches and individual drawings. Comics and Drawings demonstrates the breadth of Sailamaa’s drawing methods and offers a multitude of ways to engage in the act of visual storytelling.

Kurt Bigenho:
The Disorganizers
Take the edge off of your Powerball hangover with the help of The Disorganizers. The Disorganizers is framed as a fictional service organization, one that architects localized scenarios of disorder, disorganization, and chaos – in the home, office, or in public space. With The Disorganizers, Bigenho is experimenting with the breakdown of structure – social conventions, the ego, powerful, calcified frameworks – in order to make conditions ripe for mysterious, unexpected, magical, creative results. New experiences, new insights, new epiphanies – bloom in the chaos and rubble of The Disorganizers wake.

Curated by Samson Young, Audible Edifices (with Fransico Lopez, Peter Cusack, Pauline Oliveros and Yutaka Makino) at the School of Creative Media, City University of Hong Kong will feature one of Thompson’s newest interactive pieces.
Triangulation Device is a locative sound piece that generates sound through the body using the topography of the landscape as a compositional device. The piece is designed to be used by two participants. As each user moves through the landscape, his or her device transmits its position, which is transcoded into sound, to the other user. As users move through the environment, they create improvised soundtracks that unfold and change as they walk. The artist will present a short lecture on her projects followed by a public presentation of the piece in Kowloon Tong on May 24.

p|m ❤ San Francisco!

Last weekend we introduced the San Francisco art scene to the work of Keith W. Bentley, William Griffiths, Wil Murray, Amanda Reeves, and Robert Waters at the international art fair artMRKT. We made loads of new fans and look forward to going back next year!

A special thanks to local galleries Spoke Art, Fouladi Projects, and Paul Thiebaud Gallery for the low-down on the SF scene AND to Amanda Reeves for moving out there.

p|m Gallery was established in 2004 by Powell MacDougall. The gallery is dedicated to promoting emerging and mid-career artists internationally through exhibition exchanges and art fairs.
