As many of you know, over the past number of years, I have been part of a group of concerned citizens working to establish a modern and contemporary art gallery in Calgary. We are getting closer and we need your help. We are Contemporary Calgary, a collaboration of the Institute for Modern and Contemporary Art (IMCA), the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), the Art Gallery of Calgary (AGC) and many members and supporters of the visual arts in Calgary. We have come together to create a visual arts destination—a place where Calgarians and visitors can celebrate the art of our time.
Over the past several years we have been working on a proposal to turn the former Science Center (Centennial Planetarium) into a major modern and contemporary art gallery. We are the only major city in Canada to not have this type of art gallery experience. Calgary is home to the most active and acclaimed community of working artists in Western Canada. A significant arts destination will enhance Calgary’s cultural scene and reputation as a city with a thriving arts community by supporting and enriching the visual arts sector.
The Downtown West Association has an idea voting tool for various ideas for the space to evaluate public support. We are also submitting a formal expression of interest to the City on Tuesday of next week. Please send the following email out to your contact list to generate votes in support of our idea for the transformation of the old Science Centre into a contemporary art gallery. We need to cover some ground quickly as there is only 2 DAYS LEFT TO VOTE. I would appreciate if you took 5 minutes of your time today to click the link below and vote "I love this".
Please post this, share this, tweet this, email this, heck- shout it out loud while walking down the street. Whatever you do, share it now.
With many thanks for you support,
Vice Chair, IMCA
