Beth Stuart LOUD.BROWN.SHROUD. | Opens: Thursday, June 13, 7-10pm

June 13th – July 14th, 2013 | Opens: Thursday, June 13th, 7-10pm

a poem by Florine Stettheimer

You called me hog
You took me in hand
You cured me with sweetness
You gave me taste
You changed me completely
Even my name
You called me Ham

This exhibition offers up nine works: three times three. It is part one of at least three. Here, as the three push on and pull off one another, they reveal their affinities and differences; they tease with their fractious symmetry. This is a shuffling dance — to recommit a balance in their reflections — to adjust for change. Unknown, as yet, to them: reflection is a Liar.

Beth Stuart received her MFA in 2009 from the University of Guelph. In 2010, Stuart was shortlisted for the RBC Canadian Painting Competition; she received one of two honourable mentions in 2011. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions at Latcham Gallery (Stouffville), La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse and Battat Contemporary (both in Montreal). Loud. Brown. Shroud. is her second solo exhibition with Erin Stump Projects. Currently, her work may also be seen in The Painting Project, Galerie UQUAM, Montreal. Stuart lives and works in Hamilton.

The artist wishes to gratefully acknowledge the support of the Canada Council For the Arts, and the Ontario Arts Council
