“In the Outfield” featuring the University of Guelph Studio Art MFA Program
Returning to Toronto for its fourth biennial, this year’s University of Guelph Studio Art MFA summer exhibition will be hosted by the Olga Korper Gallery. Guelph’s graduate program has in recent years built an incredibly successful reputation, attracting the best aspiring artists from across Canada. Simple in principle, Guelph offers a critically interactive forum that supports individual creative production in interdisciplinary and media-specific practices. “In the Outfield” represents a range of working approaches which, at their core, are held together by a shared standard of critical rigor.
Over the past decade, Guelph’s graduate students have proven to be truly impressive, winning significant recognition and accolades for their artwork both nationally and internationally in every area of the professional field. “In the Outfield” features the most recent group of young artists to pass through the University of Guelph’s MFA program – half have just completed the program while the other half are midway through – and as with previous grads, this group promises to excel. Some have recently exhibited work in international museum group exhibitions; others have been featured in prominent solo venues throughout Canada. A few students are currently shortlisted for high profile national art competitions.
This exhibition at the Olga Korper Gallery is another landmark event. In the grand space of this venerable Toronto gallery, 15 artists will present a selection of artworks that were produced in the cultural hothouse of the University of Guelph. Come see for yourself this summer as the next generation of artists that matter come in from the outfield.
“In the Outfield” opens at the Olga Korper Gallery on Saturday, August 10 with a reception from 2-5pm. All artists will be present. The exhibition continues until Saturday, August 24.
