As a craft medium, wood can be the star of its own show, or play the supporting character. Valued for its workability, strength and range of coloration, even its irregularities are something to celebrate. As a natural resource, it is a precious commodity to be used with consideration and without waste.
But wood is also a key player in other areas of craft. In addition to the utilitarian role as a tool for shaping and support, wood also breathes life into clay, and its beauty is often emulated in other media. Wood has endured throughout the history of craft for its sheer versatility.
Medium and Muse: Wood features the work of Jim Lorriman & Jane Thelwell, Wayne Muma & Liz Kain, and new work from Tony Clennell, Rose Hirano and George Walker.
