Jessica Groome, Two
October 10 – November 2, 2013 | Opens: Thursday, October 10, 6-9pm
Two is based on a working-mantra: two things. Each painting represents a possible outcome for this mantra. Two things operates as a guide for making comparisons with both infinite and limited potential: fast/slow, light/dark, zero/infinity, big/small. These comparisons range in opposition, similarity and contrast. Binary formal, chromatic and conceptual relationships lead to tension and precariousness rather than harmony or balance. Two employs faith, while maintaining skepticism, uncertainty, belief and disbelief.
Jessica Groome received her BFA in Visual Arts from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2007, and her MFA from the University of Guelph in 2011. She was a semi-finalist in the 13th annual RBC Painting Competition and the recipient of the 8th Joseph Plaskett Award. Currently, she is based in Berlin, Germany and Vancouver BC. Her work has been exhibited across Canada.
