Press Release: Lampu Kansanoh, Nah, Just a Stopover

Yavuz Fine Art is pleased to present Nah, Just a Stopover, a solo exhibition of new works by Thai artist LampuKansanoh. On view from 6 December 2013 to 5 January 2014, the exhibition features massive oil paintings by Kansanoh that depict moments and memories from her recent travels around the world.

Characteristic of her work, the two-metre tall paintings on view feature caricaturised portraits of real people she encountered in her excursions around Italy, Japan, and her native Thailand. Giant, fleshy faces fill the paintings, each with engorged cheeks and comically oversized features that seem to burst and bulge from the canvases. By transforming simple images of everyday mundanities into vivid scenes full of life and personality, Kansanoh’s tableaux celebrate the personal connections between friends and strangers, even in the most fleeting and momentary of encounters, when it’s "just a stopover."

The opening reception in the presence of the artist will be held on Thursday, 5 December 2013 from 7-9pm at Yavuz Fine Art, Singapore.
