The Symbolism of the Unspoken by Sylvain Coulombe at the Thompson Landry Gallery

The Thompson Landry Gallery is honoured to welcome Sylvain Coulombe for his first solo exhibition in Toronto,The Symbolism of the Unspoken. Coulombe is an artist known for his unique and compelling characters. He creates a strong sculptural element to his work by his thick applications of paint, followed by scraping and carving of deep lines, as Coulombe’s figures emerge from the wooden canvas. This process, along with his layering of vivid colours, brings forth the incredible textures and depth to his paintings. In this new series of works, Coulombe creates an “unspoken symbolism” with colour, line and form, in order to share the story of each of his characters. His approach to portraiture is fantastical, his choice of material unconventional, and his desire to create irrepressible.

Starting February 20th come see this rising Canadian star and his collection of captivating characters…
