Emily Hill Air Spill
March 14 – April 5th, 2014
Opening reception Friday March 14th 6-8pm
Macaulay Fine Art is pleased to present Air Spill, a debut solo exhibition by Vancouver based artist Emily Hill. In a new body of work including large scale gestural paintings and a short performance, Hill explores material and colour as an immersive experience.Hill’s practice oscillates between textile and painting, highlighting the dynamic tension of rethinking structure. Her recent paintings are made with dye on ready-made wool rugs resulting in a complex array of effects that simultaneously refer to illusionistic space, and to process-based materiality; static colour is made flexible on an unstable fleece ground, producing distorted images. The work has a hazy internal logic, stirring up shared histories of tapestry, painting and the life of a domestic object. The exhibition will release a text by Tiziana La Melia in conversation with the new work.

Emily Hill currently lives and works in Vancouver BC. She graduated from the Textile Art program at Capilano College (North Vancouver) in 2011, and received her BFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design (Vancouver) in 2013.
